DLD and Dyslexia: The Language-Literacy Connection
This presentation will examine the intrinsic relationship between language and literacy as it relates to student learning and the science of reading. By delving into current research, we will uncover the connection between developmental language disorder (DLD) and dyslexia, and discuss the impact of DLD on literacy skills. In addition, assessment and intervention methods to enhance students' language skills within the context of structured literacy instruction will be explored.
Aoife Mc Namara is a literacy focused speech-language pathologist. She holds a master’s degree in speech-language therapy and a clinical certificate from Speech- Language & Audiology Canada, which reflects her professional interest in language and literacy development. Aoife has over a decade of working in both the public school system and private practice.
Beyond her clinical work, Aoife is devoted to bridging the gap between research and practice. She has contributed as a journal article reviewer, created and taught post-secondary courses, and served as an international ambassador to raise awareness of developmental language disorders.
